August 2000 - August 2001

In October 2000, the New Empire Players presented their first production, The Boy Friend. Under the direction of theatre Manager Julie Robertson, who had always wanted to direct her own productions in her own theatre, the cast were chosen through open auditions and the result was a delightful show. The set was designed and built by Danny and Trudi.

The Slipper and the Rose, presented by The Little Theatre Club in December 2000. Stunning costumes, mostly home-made, and a surprise visit from Gemma Craven who played the part of Cinderella in the original film.

Dick Whittington, presented by Cameron Productions, was the New Empire's Christmas pantomime of December - Jan 2000. A fantastic show, the cast and crew became an extension of the New Empire family, breaking our previous Christmas box office record, we had so much fun and it was a real shame when the show came to an end.

The Miller School of Dancing presented their Showtime Review in April 2001. Making use of the rostra in an ingenious way by erecting it on the front of the stage and by attaching platforms and ramps to the side, to allow easy access to the lower level from the main stage. Miller School prop man Colin Grey devised the idea and made the platforms and ramps, which are available for hire at the theatre.

The Technics music festival held once a year at the Empire. Contestants in different categories play their piece of music and are judged, the winner presented with a trophy at the end. These pictures show the stage extension, and the screen erected for projecting the individual performances which were filmed by a cameraman. The stage is ideal for corporate occasions and we have all the facilities needed for AGMs, conferences and business presentations.
