Alexandra Street can be found at the bottom of Southend High Street, in close proximity to many shops and restaurants i
ncluding Woolworths, BHS, M&S, Boots, Waterstones and Debenhams. It is also within 5 minutes walk of the famous Seafront with its promenade, Southend Pier (The Longest Pleasure Pier in the World), Adventure Island Amusement Park, The Golden Mile of amusement arcades, and numerous restaurants and public houses.

Five minutes walk the other way takes you to the Clifftops, with the Bandstand, beautiful Cliff Gardens and bowling green. Alexandra Street itself is home to three restaurants, one pub and one bar, all very close to the Theatre. The High Street also provides a plethora of fast food restaurants and a selection of Italian, Oriental and Indian cuisine. Visiting the theatre can become part of a day trip or a special night out.

Parking

The theatre does not have its own Car Park, but is surrounded by council car parks. Parking is free weekdays & Saturdays after 6pm, and after 5pm on Sundays. Alternatively there is free parking further out of town, within 10 mins walking distance of the theatre. Patrons coming to see matinée performances are advised to allow extra time for parking.

Touring Companies

For touring companies who hire the theatre, perhaps your concerns are more for accommodation and security. Because of Southend's history as a holiday haven, there is a plentiful supply of hotels and bed and breakfasts, many within walking distance of the Theatre. The town is monitored by CCTV cameras, and a police patrol keeps watch on the building and the surrounding area night and day. The Theatre itself also has video surveillance in operation 24 hours a day.

Loading

Many visiting companies load their gear and then park their vans out of town until the evenings. It is worth noting that the loading bay backs on to a busy street and we advise consulting with the theatre on the best times to load and unload. (Saturday mornings, for example, are strongly discouraged)
